Born in Brescia in 1963, in 1988 he graduated in Civil Engineering, specialising in Structural Engineering, from Milan Polytechnic. He then specialised in ‘Restoration of Monuments’ at the School of Specialisation of the Faculty of Architecture of the Milan Polytechnic. Partner of Studio Berlucchi srl since 2004, he also holds the positions of Managing Director and Technical Director.
A large part of Engineer Nicola Berlucchi's professional activity has been in the field of monumental architectural restoration, in all its specialised aspects, gaining vast experience not only from the point of view of surface conservation and restoration, but also with regard to diagnostic, architectural and structural consolidation aspects.
He has directed and conducted more than 300 diagnostic campaigns on monuments, covering all aspects of conservation and decay. He has carried out and/or directed important works for specialised companies, including several facades of palaces on the Grand Canal, the facade of Palazzo del Giardino in Parma, the interior of the Basilica of San Petronio in Bologna, etc.
In the last 17 years of his career alone, he has been responsible for the design (preliminary, final, executive) of approximately 250 million euro works, and has been Works Director for 60 million euro works (of which 32 million euro on public works) on more than 100 existing buildings and protected assets.
These include the restoration and refurbishment of the entire decorative apparatus of the La Fenice Theatre, the construction of the new library of the University of Brescia, the restoration of the monastery complex of San Benedetto Po, the restoration of the Temple of Concordia in Agrigento, the Cathedral of Brescia, the Façade of the Cathedral of Siena, the main monuments in Azerbaijan, etc.
He is one of the leading experts in the restoration of historical theatres, having designed 15 of them to his credit.
With the restoration and functional adaptation of the Teatro Sociale in Bergamo he won the prestigious European Union Prize/Europa Nostra Award 2014 for the best European restoration and in 2015 he was awarded the Best in Heritage prize in Dubrovnik among the best 25 projects on cultural heritage in the world.
