Project proposal for restoration and reconstruction, in progress the assignment for scientific supervision for the building site

Studion or Studios Monastery was founded in Constantinople before 454 by consul Studio who placed it under the patronage of St. John the Baptist Prodromos, called the "Precursor": it was located towards the western edge of the city, near the Golden Gate, near at the Sea of Marmara. In the XIII century the church was restored by Michele VIII Paleologo (1259-1282). The floor mosaic dates back to this period. The church is converted into a mosque under Beyazid II (1481-1512). It suffers fires in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The study elaborated a project proposal for restoration of the mosque based on the principle of distinctiveness, respecting the original structure and at the same time revisiting the original image of the building before abandonment; the project involves the conservative restoration of the surfaces and the reintegration of the gaps and the missing structures through new wooden elements with a simplified design.
