The present contribution concerns the restoration of the decorative elements of the La Fenice Theater in Venice, following the 1996 fire, and in particular proposes consolidation methods for surface finishes that can be used in the presence of a high content of soluble salts in the " marble plaster and stucco decorations made with gypsum. Since it is impossible, in such cases, to use desalinated tablets soaked in deionized water, an alternative may be to apply tablets with ion exchange resins followed by those containing barium hydroxide. Laboratory tests have confirmed the validity of this technique in cases where high levels of salts make it impossible to use large amounts of water.
