Il Cenacolo s.r.l, Rome, Italy, 2001
Nicola Berlucchi, Riccardo Ginanni Corradini

The contribution summarizes the results of the diagnostic analysis carried out by "Il Cenacolo", CNR "Gino Bozza" and ISMES laboratories during the restoration of the facades of the Capitoline buildings in Rome. Thanks to the chemical-physical analysis, it was possible to identify the 17th-century original plaster of the Senate Palace, to define the state of degradation of materials and a stratigraphic sequence of the various maintenance operations based not only on historical investigations but also on analytical results; in addition, the white plaster of Michelangelo's era, found on the right side of the Conservatory's Palace, was identified.
